Côte du Py - 2021 - Jean Foillard - Magnum
Jean Foillard
This terroir brings a touch of magic... An elegant, floral cuvée, with notes of liquorice and kirsch. A palate with even greater finesse and complexity, this is precision juice, driven as always by its fruit flavours.

100% Gamay, grown on soils composed of shale and manganese, rich in iron oxide. Côte de Py is the jewel of the Morgon appellation, a slope of volcanic origin sitting at the heart of the appellation. P'tit Jean, as his friend’s call him, has farmed his vines organically since the beginning but has never sought certification. The rest is a matter of tradition: harvesting by hand, whole bunch vinification, carbonic maceration, maturation in old barrels for 9 months. Bottled at the Estate without fining nor filtration, just a micro-dose of sulphur.

Jean Foillard
Jean Foillard, P'tit Jean to his friends, joined his family’s estate of 8 hectares in 1981. Son and grandson of vignerons, one could say it was simply in the order of things that he’d return to the fold. Today, the renown of his wines has made him a revered giant of Beaujolais. At the celebrated Côte de Py vineyard site, Jean creates natural wines while following the precepts of Jules Chauvet....
