Valentin Montanet
Valentin Montanet and his parents Jean and Catherine are vignerons without any pretention... but who should be taken very seriously. In an era when Burgundy wines are increasingly becoming luxury commodities, this family has continued to craft wines whose hallmarks are quality, drinkability, organic agriculture and non-interventionist vinification. Characteristics rare enough in this region to merit being highlighted! After engineering school, a year at a Swiss vineyard and a study tour of California, Valentin returned to his parents’ estate in 2010, convinced by their approach. The Domaine de La Cadette, founded in 1987, cultivated organically since 1999, is located in Vézélay, south of Chablis. The Montanets care for around twenty hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Burgundy’s two star grapes, as well as a little César and Melon de Bourgogne. They might be called “cadette”, but these are the wines of an estate in its prime!
