Olivier Humbrecht
Olivier Humbrecht has for several years now been running one of the leading biodynamic estates in Alsace, known as Zind-Humbrecht. Based in Turckheim and born in 1959 of the marriage between Geneviève Zind and Léonard Humbrecht, he would pioneer a completely natural approach to his winegrowing, and apply it over 40 hectares! One need only listen to Olivier vituperate against the harm caused by agrochemical products and their residues in our blood to understand that here, winemaking is first and foremost about respect for humanity. The vineyard has been certified organic since 1998 and biodynamic since 2002. An exceptional estate which was responsible for the rebirth of parcels which once enjoyed mythic reputations, despite the extreme challenges they present (Le Clos Saint-Urbain has an average slope of 90%)! Today, it’s an estate boasting an incredible wealth of diverse terroirs and coveted parcels. The approach to viticulture and vinification embraced by Olivier – qualified as France’s first Master of Wine in 1989, and considered by some critics the best winemaker in the world – seeks to reconcile terroir and grape variety to the greatest effect, the result of which is always the same: elegance and purity!
