Frédéric Pourtalié
Frédéric Pourtalié is one of the most admired winemakers in Languedoc, as his achievement at the head of Domaine de Montcalmès has earned him respect. Indeed, it has become in a few years a staple and must-taste in the Languedoc region. Originally, the harvest from the 30 hectares of the family farm was entirely sold to the cooperative cellar, until 1998, when Frédéric Pourtalié and his father Jean-Marie decided to create a their own Estate and to vinify their grapes. 1999 is therefore the first vintage for Montcalmès. Since then, the Domaine has been certified organic, follows the main principles of biodynamics, the cellar has been fitted out in such a way as to work by gravity, and the blends of the terroirs are still as precise as ever. Located in Puéchabon, 30 km Northwest of Montpellier, the Estate now covers 22 hectares divided into the Terrasses du Larzac appellation, and produces some 50,000 bottles a year. Increasingly sought-after wines, the juices are sublimated by time.
