Lionel Gauby is son of the great Gérard, Lord of Catalonia. Since the 1980s, this family has been on the same quest: making complex, perfectly balanced wines. As a winemaker, Gérard was implacable, waking up each day to question what he had done the day before. The style of wines at the estate never stopped evolving for 30 years. Lionel and Gérard produce wines at once complex and easy-drinking. The estate, located in the commune of Calce, is known and renowned everywhere. The cuvée Muntada is unanimously acclaimed by leading critics in the wine world, and has long been considered as perhaps the greatest wine of the Mediterranean basin. The Gauby clan has consistently and for many years worked their vines and soils using biodynamic methods. A pioneer of this approach, Gérard has been a trailblazer for his region. And today, Lionel has taken up the torch. It can’t have been an easy thing growing up in the shadow of a revered giant, but Lionel couldn’t have hoped for a better school of wine.
