Loire Valley
A nose of ripe fruit, blueberry, plum, cherry, and sweet spices, with a hint of sandalwood. Rather full bodied and powerful for this variety, this is a complex wine, without lacking smoothness and freshness – a very well balanced cuvée.
85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines grown organically and planted around 1970 on clay-limestone soils in Champigny, on two tiny parcels at the vineyard site “Boutifolle”. Harvesting is done by hand, on the same day for the two grape varieties. Vinification: the grapes are destemmed, followed by 45 days of maceration with little extraction, blending of free-run and press juices, and one year of aging in 225-litre barrels that have seen several wines. Bottled at the estate without fining, filtration, or added sulphites.
Sophie and Clément Maire-Kurdziel, just in their early forties, are respectively from Moselle and Aveyron in France, and met at the university in Montpellier. Both became oenologists, they worked for large Estates in France and abroad, before returning to the Loire Valley.
