Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu
This is always a favorite among Lapalu cuvées: undergrowth, leather, cocoa, red fruits, hints of dried herbs... Round, voluminous, mineral and silky on the palate, with a long finish.

100% Gamay from 60-year-old vines grown organically and planted on granitic and sandy soils, facing southwest. Living soils, ploughed and worked by hand without chemistry or weedkillers. Grapes harvested by hand, and handled with respect to preserve the indigenous yeasts. Gentle vinification, total destemming which is rare in Beaujolais, then maceration of the berries for 2 months in 400-litre amphorae. Maturation for 10 months in vats. Unfined, unfiltered, just a micro-dose of sulphur.
Jean-Claude Lapalu
Jean-Claude Lapalu is a vigneron who works in harmony with nature, situated on the slopes of Brouilly since 1996. His 9-hectare estate is certified organic, even if he does not mark this on his labels. He also bottles his wines with next to no sulphur – just 1 g/hl. It would be easy to imagine then that some oenophiles might dismiss him as lazy tree hugger, and yet for some time now...
