A reminder of the winemaking heights to which this estate has risen with the 2012 vintage – the texture here is incredible. With notes of black fruits and spices, the palate is voluminous, voluptuous, and round, with crisp fruit. A long finish... Pure class.
Stanislas Wallut
Stanislas Wallut stands alone today at the helm of this estate which he took over alongside the Roy de Blicquy family in 1993. An estate built from the ground up, 8.5 hectares located in the commune of Orange, in the northern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. While some of the vines are 100 years old – a precious heritage indeed – the winery itself had to be entirely rebuilt, next to the house. To do so, they dug eight metres underground, and for two good reasons: the coolness there would bring additional freshness to the wines, and being underground they could work by gravity and avoid any form of pumping. The conversion to organic viticulture began in 1993 and in 1998 the estate would be certified organic by ECOCERT and biodynamic by BIODYVIN. Stan tries his best to promote biodiversity by planting fruit trees around the vineyard, but in this extreme climate, battered by winds, little grows above a man’s height. Even the vine suffers, though just enough to ensure the yields remain lusciously low, around 24 hl/ha.
