Egon Muller

Egon Müller, the fourth to bear that name, belongs to a mythic dynasty of German vignerons. An estate run by the same family since 1797, acquired after Napoléon decreed that the clergy’s lands be secularized. Today, it is undoubtedly the most prestigious and highly qualitative estate in all of Germany. And yet one which remains an estate for those in the know, situated in the vineyard known as the Scharzhofberg – a terroir on an extreme slope near the river Saar, less that 10 km from the Luxembourg border. This vineyard, which was expanded from 18 ha to 28 ha in 1971, is divided up between only 8 owners. The wines that emerge from Egon’s estate are legendary, with certain cuvées ranking among the most expensive and most coveted in the world. Rieslings so pure, that they’ve taken on a world-class reputation of mythical proportions. Wines that are often barely affordable, if at all, but which you have to taste once in your life…
