Jean Maupertuis

Jean Maupertuis is a modest, rather reserved vigneron, and yet he is indeed the leading natural winegrower in Auvergne! After pursuing a career as a computer scientist in the Rhone Valley, while spending all his evenings after work in vineyards, he’d finally decide to leave it all behind to make wine. So he headed to Mâcon for a training programme in winegrowing and production, during which he would first taste the wines of such legendary figures as Marcel Lapierre and Pierre Overnoy... It was the 90’s! In 1993, Jean took over a lease on three hectares of vineyard parcels in Saint-Georges-sur-Allier, and began working them with great precision. For him, starting from scratch in a region not known for its wines at the time represented an exciting challenge. Since founding his estate, Jean’s communion with his vines has only grown deeper, but in other ways he hasn’t changed at all: he still lives above his winery, and he continues to care for his terroirs while bottling honest and generous juice – indeed, wines bordering on poetry.
