A complex nose, with notes of honeyed white fruit, candied orange, dried fruit, and a hint of minerality. Palate: as the label suggests, this is poetic stuff indeed. This sweet wine, with 15.5 grams of residual sugar/litre, is a true delicacy, with a finish that lingers on for an eternity.
Eric Nicolas
Éric and Christine Nicolas, one the great ambassadors of the wines of the Loire today, and not just for the quality of their luscious cuvées of such masterfully balanced sweetness. The couple founded their estate from scratch in 1995, first renovating an old farmhouse and then cobbling together piece by piece some twenty hectares of vines across five communes. After embracing organic viticulture in 2005, the entire vineyard was certified biodynamic in 2011. “This attention to the day-to-day experience of the vines allows us to remain highly adaptable to the particularities of the vintage and all kinds of other challenges. Moreover, it allows us to translate the terroir in the taste of the wine.” In the cellar the winemaking approach is natural, with work by gravity, and ageing done in underground cellars. Joined by their talented son Clément in 2015, today Bellivière’s future is in good hands, and all the praise is well deserved: theirs are wines of unwavering pleasure and precision.
