Causse Toujours - 2017 - Patrice Lescarret

Domaine Causse Marines

Sold out

A wild wine! Animalesque! Aromas of black fruits and spices, with notes of violet and liquorice. On the palate: beautiful structure. A rare and wonderful cuvée, balancing power and rusticity, and highlighting just how well these two very complementary grape varieties blend.

A blended cuvée of 80% Syrah (70-year-old vines) and 20% Prunelard (20-year-old vines). Yields are around 35 hl/ha. The vines are farmed biodynamically, certified organic and biodynamic by Demeter, and planted on a limestone plateau. Hand-harvested, naturally vinified—though Patrice keeps details scarce... Long maceration, slow fermentation, a few pump-overs, only free-run juice retained, aged in barrels with no new oak. Bottled at the Domaine, with just a micro-dose of sulfur depending on the vintage.
